In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re proud to launch our #BlackFilmmakersinFocus series! Each Friday in February, we’ll spotlight a visionary NashFilm alum whose work pushes boundaries, uplifts voices, and shapes the future of cinema.

Today, we are excited to highlight David Fortune, writer and director of the #NashFilm56 official selection COLOR BOOK.

David Fortune is an award-winning writer and director based in Atlanta, Georgia. He was named Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch, nominated for the 2025 NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative, and is a recipient of the AT&T Untold Stories Award, which provided a $1 million grant to direct his feature film COLOR BOOK. As a filmmaker, he seeks to capture character-driven stories that live inside cinematic worlds, bringing depth and humanity to narratives on a larger scale.

Add COLOR BOOK to your watchlist and check out his film SHOEBOX, produced through the Indeed-Hillman Grad’s Rising Voices Program, now streaming on Hulu and Kanopy (Season 1, Episode 8 of Rising Voices).

Stay tuned this February, celebrate with us, and show some love to these incredible filmmakers 🎥
