Introducing our #NashFilm57 Kurdish Short Films spotlight in partnership with @newyorkkcc and @kcmatn. The screening will kick off with a musical performance from the Kurdish Culture & Music Association. AGAINST FORGETTING (dir. Azad Azizyan) Sun, Sep 27th, 11:00 AM @ Regal Green Hills Theater 15 Against Forgetting narrates the stories of four participants in Diyarbakir, a city in Northern Kurdistan, amidst political turmoil. In September 2016, the Turkish President appointed trustees to replace elected officials in pro-Kurdish municipalities, stripping away the power of local governance. Despite this, the participants are devoted to preserving Kurdish culture through land, body, food, and music. As their stories unfold, epic encounters between good and evil emerge on a dramatic stage. THE CITY UNDER THE MANDARIN TREE (dir. Amir Gholami) Sun, Sep 27th, 11:00 AM @ Regal Green Hills Theater 15 A death sentence has been issued for a man, yet something falters in its execution, and repetition replaces certainty; within this disruption, the meaning of death and authority slowly unravels. EZDA (dir. Halime Akturk) Sun, Sep 27th, 11:00 AM @ Regal Green Hills Theater 15 Ezda is the story of Besime, a young Yazidi mother and survivor of ISIS’s genocide against the Yazidi community. In her own words, she recounts her experiences of being in captivity for nearly 3 years among ISIS members, and the challenges she faces after fleeing with her children, and adjusting to her new life in Canada. NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH (dir. Hamoun Dolatshahi) Sun, Sep 27th, 11:00 AM @ Regal Green Hills Theater 15 Nothing But The Truth portrays the ethical conflicts experienced by an Iranian Kurdish Interpreter who, inspired by the Black Lives Matters uprisings, tries to sway the immigration case of a refugee by giving him legal advice during his an intense and stressful court hearing.

We’re so excited to announce our Closing Night Presentation for the 57th Nashville Film Festival: BEING HEUMANN (dir. Siân Heder) Wednesday, September 30, 2026 6:00 PM @ Belcourt Theatre. They wouldn’t take Judy Heumann’s phone calls, so she took their building. In 1977, a young disabled woman (Ruth Madeley) and a scrappy coalition of outsiders decide they’ve had enough. What begins as one impulsive act becomes the longest occupation of a federal building in American history, as hundreds spontaneously seize government offices and refuse to leave until the bureaucrat in their way (Mark Ruffalo) takes action. Bringing rebellion in all its forms to the hallowed halls, a movement’s accidental leaders struggle to find their path forward where none has ever been paved for them. Directed by Academy Award winner Siân Heder (“CODA”) and based on true events, “Being Heumann” is the revolutionary, irreverent and deeply human story of the least likely people trying to pull off the impossible and change the lives of millions.
