2022 Film Festival

The 53rd Nashville Film Festival, taking place Sept. 29 – Oct. 5, 2022, includes a full range of in-person screenings at venues throughout Nashville plus select films, panels and Q&As securely online!

The 53rd Nashville Film Festival extends our important goals to elevate and honor filmmakers, screenwriters, musicians and artists from around the world and here in Tennessee. This year’s festival will feature more than 150 films, Creators Conference panels, Q&As, the annual Music Program and other exclusive content in an engaging mix of in-person and online events.

What important dates do I need to know?

  • Open for Entries – January 3, 2022
  • Early Bird Deadline – March 25, 2022
  • Regular Deadline – May 20, 2022
  • Late Deadline – June 10, 2022
  • Extended Deadline – June 24, 2022
  • Notification Date – August 12, 2022

How do I submit my film?

You can submit your film via FilmFreeway (button above). A detailed description of our rules and guidelines can be found on our FilmFreeway page. 

How much is it to enter?

Fees are staggered based on entry categories and Earlybird, Regular, Late and Extended Deadlines. You can also receive a discounted rate if you are a Gold member on FilmFreeway. 

Do you accept works-in-progress?

Work-in-progress can be submitted, though not encouraged.

Do you accept re-submission from previous years?

We do not. Any work that was submitted in previous years is not eligible for the 2022 Festival.

Do you require premiere status?

We do not require World, US or Southeast premiere status (although preferable and will be eligible for additional awards money). We DO however, require Tennessee premiere status.

Do you prefer DVD, Blu-ray or online screeners?

Online ONLY! No other form of screener will be eligible.

When do we notify filmmakers of acceptance or rejection?

Filmmakers will be notified on or before August 12, 2022

Entry Deadlines / Notifications:
Open for Entries: November 15, 2021
Earlybird Deadline: February 7, 2022
Regular Deadline: March 21, 2022
Late Deadline: May 16, 2022
Extended (FINAL) Deadline: June 6, 2022

Quarter Finalists will be notified by June 24, 2022
Semifinalists will be notified no later than July 8, 2022.
Finalists will be notified by email no later than July 22, 2022. Winners in each category will be announced at the Screenwriting Competition Awards Ceremony during the festival in October 2022.



The health and safety of festival attendees is our top priority. Attendees will be subject to all applicable federal, state and local safety precautions in place at the time of the event. In addition, based on circumstances, NashFilm may, at its sole discretion, implement additional safety precautions to be determined. Mandatory compliance for festival attendees could include, among other requirements, masking, capacity limits, negative test results verification, and/or proof of vaccination. Guests are expected to comply with all laws, rules and regulations, as well as any venue safety guidelines and to act responsibly and sensibly at all times. As we continue to monitor best practices and adhere to any required safety measures, we will continue to update our policy, as needed.
