The NashFilm Creators Conference is the Nashville Film Festival’s annual summit where creators of all kinds come together to connect, collaborate, and elevate their craft. Taking place Friday, September 19th through Sunday, September 21st, 2025, the conference is full of energy as filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, and industry pros from across the country gather for a dynamic weekend of panels, Q&As, networking events, and creative deep-dives. Bart Herbison

A Paris, Tenn., native, Bart Herbison spent 14 years in commercial radio, worked as a reporter and as a correspondent for The Nashville Banner newspaper before joining the administration of former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter as Deputy Director of Communications in 1987. Herbison joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Bob Clement (D-Nashville) in 1988 where he served as the Tennessee Congressman’s Press Secretary, Campaign Manager and Chief Tennessee Administrative Officer before leaving Capitol Hill for Music Row in 1997. Herbison is Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the world’s largest not-for-profit songwriters trade organization and advocacy group dedicated to the songwriting profession. Established in 1967, NSAI’s membership of nearly 5,000 spans the United States and other countries. With nearly one hundred chapters, the association serves aspiring and professional songwriters in all genres of music. They also own The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.

Moiya McTier

Moiya McTier

Dr. Moiya McTier is an astrophysicist, folklorist, and senior advisor to the Human Artistry Campaign. After graduating from Harvard as the first student to double major in astrophysics and mythology, Moiya went on to become the first Black woman to earn a Phd in astronomy from Columbia University, where she used a type of AI to study stars around the galaxy. Now, Moiya’s passion for bridging arts with science and demystifying the universe takes many forms, from designing museum exhibits with artists to consulting with Disney on movies to teaching politicians about AI. She introduced us mere humans to our home galaxy in her award-winning debut book, The Milky Way: An Autobiography of Our Galaxy, and every week, she explores a different space topic on her podcast Pale Blue Pod. Moiya’s next book, Mothers of Invention, exploring the history of human creativity through the eyes of the Greek Muses, is expected in Fall 2026.

Courtney Sabatini

Courtney Sabatini is a transactional entertainment attorney with more than a dozen years of experience representing writers, directors, actors and authors, as well as producers, production companies and studios.  She specializes in the negotiation and drafting of talent agreements and rights acquisition agreements, but she has experience in most aspects of the film and television industry, from development through distribution. In the past, Courtney worked for the legal departments of Anonymous Content, Legendary Entertainment and Paramount Television, and she started her career at the talent firm Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light. Courtney has spoken on multiple panels related to the film and television industry and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Nashville Film Festival. Courtney received her J.D. with a Specialization in Entertainment, Media and Intellectual Property Law from UCLA School of Law (2012) and her B.A. from UCLA (2009).  She is admitted to practice law in California and Tennessee.

Matt Jacobs

Matt Jacobs provides legal and business advice to major studios, production companies and individual producers in connection with the financing, development, production and distribution of film, television and new media projects. He also advises writers, directors, show creators, and other high profile and creative individuals, negotiating deals and contracts and fostering business relationships. Past client projects have included both festival award-winning and Academy Award-nominated films. In 2021 Matt opened the firm’s office in Nashville, Tennessee while continuing to represent companies from coast to coast. Matt received his his law degree from Fordham University School of Law (2004) and his undergraduate degree  from the University of Wisconsin – Madison (1999). Matt is admitted to practice law in New York, California and Tennessee.

Hamish Berry

Hamish Berry heads up the firm’s California office.  Hamish has extensive experience negotiating and drafting a wide variety of film and television deals, including all agreements for financing, development, production and distribution of feature and documentary films and television series.  He represents both lenders and borrowers in pre-sale, tax credit and gap financings for independent film projects as well as distributors of film and television content. His blend of entertainment law and hands-on entertainment industry experience, makes him a go-to lawyer for independent film producers and film financiers. He has also served as production counsel to numerous independent film projects. Prior to founding Bruns Brennan Berry Pikulin & Jacobs, he was a senior associate at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, P.C. in New York. In addition to his wide entertainment experience, Hamish has extensive experience advising on complex commercial financing relationships in other industries. From 2001 to 2004 he was associated with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, where he represented financiers, airlines, and other transportation companies in highly structured domestic and international financing transactions. From 1995 to 2001, he practiced corporate law in Australia for the National Australia Bank Limited; Mallesons Stephen Jaques; and Baker & McKenzie, where he developed expertise in corporate compliance, project and structured finance, and banking law. Hamish has been included in The Legal 500 list of leading entertainment lawyers in the U.S.  He is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Member, Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section), and is admitted to practice in New York, California and Victoria, Australia.  He received his law and bachelor’s degrees from University of Melbourne, and has his Certificate in Film Production from New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Chris Everett

Christopher Everett is an independent film director, producer and curator, based in Wilmington, North Carolina. Christopher is the Artistic Director at the Southern Documentary Fund and is the founder of Speller Street Films. He’s a recent Firelight Media Doc Lab Fellow. His debut feature documentary WILMINGTON ON FIRE, chronicles the 1898 Wilmington Massacre. He’s currently in post-production on WILMINGTON ON FIRE: CHAPTER II and also GRANDMASTER: THE VIC MOORE STORY which looks at the life and teachings of martial arts pioneer Victor Moore. Christopher recently launched a new content creation company + festival called 3 Chambers which aims to elevate hip-hop, anime, and martial arts culture.

Allison Inman

Allison Inman is filmmaker and the education and engagement director at the Belcourt Theatre, Nashville’s nonprofit film center. She hosts filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, performances and film seminars and teaches visual literacy/cinema appreciation in schools and community centers with the Belcourt’s Mobile Movie Theatre. She previously worked in film engagement for ITVS and Rocky Mountain PBS, hosting public screenings and discussions of social-issue documentary films in Nashville, Denver and New Orleans. In 2011, she directed MUD ON THE STARS: STORIES FROM ELIA KAZAN’S WILD RIVER, a documentary about the first big studio film shot in Tennessee. She served as a producer of the Moving Picture Boys’ SAINT CLOUD HILL, which profiles a tent city in Nashville facing eviction, and which was broadcast on PBS’s Reel South in 2019. With the Moving Picture Boys (Jace Freeman and Sean Clark), she is working on a series of short documentaries capturing the culture of workplaces in middle Tennessee. Carthage House of Beauty, which profiles a day in the life of a small-town beauty shop, and Hi Tech Service, about a beloved, now-closed stereo repair shop on Nashville’s Nolensville Pike, premiered at the Nashville Film Festival in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and aired on Nashville Public Television in May 2023. Carthage House of Beauty was named Best Tennessee Short at the 2021 Nashville Film Festival. The trio’s latest, Baxter Bi-Rite, will premiere at the 2025 Defy Film Festival.

David is a writer, director and producer. He produced the critically acclaimed feature drama ONE EYED GIRL (Austin Film Festival: Best Picture Winner) and produced the horror/thriller RABBIT (Sitges Film Festival, FantasticFest). Recently, he wrote and directed the Sundance film NEVER GET BUSTED!, Executive Produced by John Battsek (Beckham, Searching For Sugar Man) and Chris Smith (Tiger King, Fyre).

Karla Murthy

Karla Murthy is a director and Emmy-nominated producer whose award-winning work has been described by the Columbia Journalism Review as “compelling, informative and compassionate.” She began her career with journalist Bill Moyers and has produced for several PBS news programs. Her directorial debut, The Place That Makes Us, screened at major festivals and aired nationally on America ReFramed. Her short film Love, Jamie premiered at OUTFEST LA, won the Grand Jury Prize, and streams on PBS American Masters. Her latest feature, The Gas Station Attendant, premiered at Sheffield DocFest 2025 and received a Special Mention Jury Award. Of Filipino and South Asian descent, Karla grew up in Texas, studied classical piano, and holds a degree in Religion and Computer Science from Oberlin College. Based in NYC, she is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia and Film Fatales, and her work has been supported by Women Make Movies, Firelight Media, and Yaddo.

Luanne Dietz is a three-time Emmy Award winner, Cannes Lion and Edward R. Murrow Award recipient. She has been a force in the creative industry and has over 15 years of experience developing and producing premium film, experiential, and custom content for globally-renowned brands, networks, corporations and foundations. Having worked at all stages of production from Cam Op to Editor to Director to EP, Luanne Specializes in documentary storytelling both on screen and through experiential. She is a highly motivated, strategic problem-solver with top-tier analytical and communication skills. A journalist turned branded content guru, Luanne has led content strategy at Amazon as well as human-centric video storytelling for Starbucks. Previously she was the first director at CNN’s brand studio, Courageous, where she directed and produced documentaries for Great Big Story and Turner at large. She has worked as a photo editor and multimedia producer at the San Francisco Chronicle and has multiple years of experience in film and arts education. Her endeavors have taken her around the globe, including extended periods of time in Europe, Africa, China and the Middle East. Dietz graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Communications with emphasis on Photojournalism from the University of Florida. She has made it her goal to seek out stories with significance, and use her camera as a tool to tell them. She is rarely seen without a smile on her face.

Hannah Epstein works in the Sports and Non-Fiction Televison department at CAA. She represents some of the most acclaimed Oscar, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary production companies across the world and has been recognized in Variety’s “Up Next” New York Power of Women Impact List. Over the course of the past two years, Epstein sold The Cinemart’s explosive docuseries MURDAUGH MURDERS to Netflix, SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE to Amazon and FYRE FRAUD to Hulu. Additionally, Epstein sold Imagine Entertainment’s six-part cinema verité docuseries ON POINTE to Disney+ and orchestrated a deal with ABC News for HARRY AND MEGHAN: AN AFRICAN JOURNEY, which offered exclusive access to the inner world of the British royals. As television began to shift towards more premium content, Epstein led the charge, taking on clients such as Alison Klayman (THE BRINK), Fisher Stevens (Oscar Winner, THE COVE), Bing Liu (MINDING THE GAP), Daniel Junge (SAVING FACE), Laura Checkoway (Oscar nominated for EDITH & EDDIE), Darren Foster (SCIENCE FAIR), Penny Lane (HAIL SATAN), and many others. Epstein has spent portions of her life in Panama, where the majority of her family still resides, the UK, the American south and New York, where she was based for the past fifteen years. Epstein lives in Nashville, where she works with the CAA Sports department. In her new role, she will focus on the crossover between sports and entertainment, as she will be creating opportunities that amplify athletes’ stories within TV, MP, Podcasts and more.

Annapurna Sriram grew up in Nashville Tennessee and a lot of her early artistic influences were informed by the unchaperoned movie rentals she found at the local public library. Annapurna received a BFA in Acting from Rutgers’ Mason Gross School of the Arts. Annapurna spent many years working in New York both on stage and in television and film. Her most cherished previous work includes Jesse Eisenberg’s The Spoils, Wallace Shawn’s Evening at the Talkhouse, the television shows I Think You Should Leave and Billions and the feature film Feral. Fucktoys is her directorial debut.

David Fortune

David Fortune is a writer and director from Atlanta, Georgia. He was named Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch in 2025 and received the AT&T Untold Stories Award, which provided a $1 million grant to direct his feature film, Color Book. The film premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Festival and has garnered over 20 jury and audience awards at festivals across the nation. In addition to these recognitions, David has also been nominated for the 2025 NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative. His short film Us was selected as a winner of the Netflix Content Creators Program, while his film Shoebox, produced through the Indeed-Hillman Grad’s Rising Voices Program, was acquired and distributed by HULU. David has participated in numerous directing fellowships such as the Netflix – Film Independent Amplifier Fellowship, Big Indie Pictures Film Fellowship, Village Roadshow Emerging Talent Program, and Paramount ViewFinders Directors Program. David is a proud alumnus of Morehouse College and Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television. As a writer and director, he seeks to capture universal connections within marginalized communities while shedding light on the intimate human experiences.

Miller’s feature documentary UNASHAMED about faith and hip hop is directed by Dave Rivera, and negotiating distribution. Miller’s feature film IDENTITY CRISIS was directed by Shari Rigby and is distributed by Vertical Entertainment. Miller is working on a doc series TASTE AND SEE which connects food and spirituality along with a local doc-series about the preservation movement in Franklin, TN called BOOMING. Miller has a history in both scripted and non-scripted production and development, and has a long history in non-fiction television, managing and producing shows for Discovery, Comedy Central, PBS, VH1, E!, History, OWN, and TLC. Miller’s documentary Work and Happiness: The Human Cost of Welfare, produced and directed by Miller, premiered on PBS and PBS World in 2018. Miller’s passion for people, ethics, and history drives her development, understanding that stories shape our culture. Formerly, Miller was a creative executive with Third Coast Content – an Endeavor company in Nashville – and a production executive with Declan Baldwin’s Big Indie Pictures in NYC where she worked exclusively with Amazon Original Movies, overseeing the production and delivery of their original films. Autumn Bailey Ford

Autumn Bailey is an award-winning film and television producer known for her passion for independent storytelling and commitment to uplifting diverse voices. A Pennsylvania native and founder of the woman-owned Autumn Bailey Entertainment (ABE), she has produced over 30 films, including the acclaimed documentary Maynard and Mine 9, and has several shows currently in development. With a talent for securing funding for indie creators, she has expanded her brand to include a West Coast division and co-founded Prominent Productions with Cameron Burnett. Autumn’s impact extends internationally, with projects filmed in Africa and Europe, and she’s also the force behind Atlanta’s long-running Get Connected industry mixer and the Georgia Entertainment Gala. A dedicated community builder and member of multiple film organizations, Autumn continues to break barriers in the industry, guided by her mentor Devon Franklin and her belief in hard work, collaboration, and purpose-driven storytelling.

With two decades of experience in the independent film industry and a lifelong love of the movies, Trifone has always known she’d work in movies. To date, that work includes film festival management, programming and marketing (Heartland Film; Indy Film Fest); publicity management and logistics (Sundance Film Festival); arthouse distribution strategy, marketing and national publicity (Film Movement; Music Box Films) and now several years at the helm of Bright Iris Film Co, the boutique independent film publicity agency she founded in 2017. In addition to her agency work, Trifone is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association and an adjunct professor at DePaul University. When not working on movies or writing about movies or watching movies, Trifone is an avid traveler, baker and Wordler.

She’s currently the Director of Marketing & Publicity at the independent distributor Music Box Films and Doppelgänger Releasing, strategizing to bring critically acclaimed indie films to U.S. audiences. Elizabeth is a champion of emerging artists and filmmakers and has an appreciation for bold storytelling, diverse voices, and queer little indie films. Their work has helped spotlight distinctive and remarkable stories, including theatrical and home entertainment releases for films such as Fremont, The Unknown Country, Mountains, In the Summers, Eephus, and Familiar Touch. She recently guest-programmed Sapphopalooza, a film series celebrating lesbian cinema, at the Music Box Theatre, delivering equal parts cinematic excellence and sapphic joy.

Adam Cobb

Adam Cobb is an Independent Spirit Award-nominated producer based out of Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to producing Nicole Riegel’s award-winning feature debut, Holler, he re-teamed with IFC Films on her follow-up, Dandelion, which was released in theaters around the country in July of 2024. He recently formed Room 252 with Riegel, a production company focused on helping first-time filmmakers get their debut films into production. He is currently developing Selena Burks’ autobiographical narrative feature Rose from Concrete, based on her Sundance-selected doc short Saving Jackie, as well as Matthew Smitley’s Waves & Radiation.

From The Puffy Chair to Cyrus and his latest feature The Baltimorons, Jay has continually pushed the boundaries of storytelling with honesty, humor, and heart.In this candid discussion, Jay will share insights on writing personal stories, producing outside and within the studio system and balancing creative roles on both sides of the camera. He’ll also explore how the indie landscape has evolved and what it takes to stay creatively fulfilled and resilient in today’s industry.Aspiring filmmakers, writers, and actors won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear directly from one of the most influential voices in contemporary independent film.

Jay Duplass

Jay Duplass began his career in the early 2000’s writing, directing and producing several award winning independent and studio films with his brother Mark, including THE PUFFY CHAIR and CYRUS. In 2014, Jay and Mark created the critically acclaimed television series, TOGETHERNESS, inking a television deal with HBO, where they’ve since produced shows like SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE, THE LADY AND THE DALE and ROOM 104. The brothers also produced the Emmy winning Netflix docu-series WILD WILD COUNTRY. Jay began acting in 2012 when Joey Soloway cast him in their Amazon TV series, TRANSPARENT, which won a Golden Globe for best comedy series, multiple Emmys, and Jay was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award in 2016. He has also starred in shows like HBO’s INDUSTRY, Netflix’s THE CHAIR, Disney’s PERCY JACKSON, and in feature films like OUTSIDE IN with Edie Falco, and BEATRIZ AT DINNER with Salma Hayek. For the first time in 14 years, Jay has returned to his roots of writing and directing films with the premiere of THE BALTIMORONS at SXSW 2025. His latest film, SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU, is currently in post-production.

He has narrated over 25 books on Audible and many more outside of the platform ranging multiple American and UK dialects. Zach Is dedicated to the art of acting, devoted to the craft of storytelling, and committed to the process of becoming another to bring his art to life.
