This year’s program guide will be available as a .pdf come the end of April, 2018. Also, we’ll have printed versions available at the festival that you can make notes in or take home as a souvenir. Just swing by the on-site box office and pick up your copy!
Wondering why the festival’s films aren’t grouped by genre (i.e. comedy, horror, etc)? Each film category represents how it was curated (i.e the competition that the films were submitted to). We color code these in the program guide and the online calendar to make it easier to find something you’ll enjoy! Here are each of the categories with a little descriptions.
Special Presentations: High profile films featuring familiar names and rising stars making their Nashville premieres.
Spectrum: Compelling, challenging stories crafted by the filmmakers who are setting trends in contemporary world cinema.
TN First Competition: Homegrown cinema representing all corners of the Volunteer State.
Narrative Competition: This competition brings the newest films from around the world created by established filmmakers.
New Directors Competition: These films feature narrative works created by first-time filmmakers.
Documentary Competition: A selection of the finest non-fiction cinema on offer.
Music Films/Music City Competition: Highlighting films that celebrate music, musicians and the impact music has on our lives.
Animated Feature Competition: Independent animated visions created in all styles and coming from all corners of the world.
Graveyard Shift Competition: An unflinching look at the human (and inhuman) condition, holding nothing back and digging down to the marrow. It’s not for the faint of heart – if you couldn’t figure that out already.
Shorts Programs: Short films are all under 40 minutes. The winning films in the Narrative Shorts Competition, Animated Shorts Competition, and Documentary Shorts Competition will become eligible for Academy Award Consideration, provided it meets all other eligibility requirements.
Episodic Competition: Creative content crafted for any type of screen meant to be consumed in small pieces…or binged!
The films shown at our annual film festival are all independently made, and an increasing number of which are premiering at NashFilm! Because this stage is so early on in the film’s life, few, if any have gone through the rating process. If you are looking for films that are family friendly, or of a particular rating, feel free to reach out. We are happy to advise to the best of our ability. 🙂
