2010 NaFF Youth Outreach Project

"Journey" and "The Making of 'Journey'"

World Premiere
Saturday, April 17
12:30 pm

For its 7th year, the Nashville Film Festival's "Youth Outreach Project" again features students from the Charles Davis Foundation in "Journey," along with students of the renowned W.O. Smith Music School who join forces once more to score the short film.

Once given the theme, "Your destination determines your preparation, "the 'making of'" documentary chronicles five weeks of afterschool sessions where the teens share their insights, interpretations and experiences of a full spectrum of journeys, exploring such topics as their dream vacations, career aspirations and the path of their day-to-day lives.

Improvising scenes from these discussions, they create a provocative narrative opening with "Andy" sharing her dreams of becoming a performer, "Nikki," revealing the conflicts she's having with her stepfather, and Habiba reluctantly preparing for school. During the course of the day, they and their classmates use their vivid imaginations to cope with dilemmas, fuel their desires and materialize their grandest dreams.

The short film was directed by
prolific Nashville director Wes Edwards.
